"Pearsons Pond epitomizes the affordable luxury that a bed and breakfast has
to offer....Pearsons Pond attracts as many business travelers as vacationers, and
guests can earn frequent flier mileage ..
TravelAge Magazine 1/98
"Heres a mental game you can play; Imagine youre a slightly obsessed
bed and breakfast host and you decide to give your guests every amenity you can possibly
think of. Now go to Diane Pearsons house and count how many you missed. A private
telephone line in each room? Kids stuff Pearson installed two lines per room
so guests can make phone calls and connect to the Internet at the same time. Did you think
of a private duck pond with a dock, a rowboat, and a fountain? How about a Jacuzzi, car
rental and business center, free coffee, and breakfast? To finish the game, youll
have to check in, but book far ahead, as the place is earning a deserved reputation.
Its located in the Mendenhall Valley, far from downtown."
"Pearsons Pond Bed and Breakfast, Juneau: Diane Pearson takes the prize for
the most obsessive attention to detail at any bed and breakfast in Alaska. Not only are
the bathrooms stocked with condoms, but the private pond, with a fountain
spraying...."
Frommers Alaska Guide (The Best B&Bs of Alaska) 1996
"...The attention to detail doesnt stop when you step
outside. There are bikes, rowboats, & beautiful garden paths to enjoy, as well as a
barbecue & hot tubs. In winter, you can go x-c skiing and ice skating."
Fodors Guide to Americas Best Bed and Breakfasts, 1997
"Mendenhall Glacier can be seen through the trees surrounding this luxurious
B&B Inn [Pearsons Pond Luxury Inn] which will appeal to those who seek comfort
and privacy after a hectic days sightseeing! The suites have a bedroom with lounge
area, a kitchen, complete with breakfast in the fridge, a bathroom, a private entrance,
and access to the outdoor hot tubs. Book early!"
North American Highways (Canada & Alaska) 1996
"Soak in the hot tub at Pearsons Pond Luxury Inn and see the glacier
gleaming beyond towering stands of Sitka spruce. Less than 200 years ago, the glacier
covered this very spot with ice thousands of feet thick, carving out the pond which gives
the inn its name.
Here, just five minutes from Mendenhall Glacier, innkeeper Diane Pearson has created an
exceptional haven at the edge of the Alaskan wilderness. Homemade bread and huckleberry
jam welcome guests along with fresh flowers, Alaskan Amber beer and fully stocked
kitchenette. Have breakfast on the guest rooms private deck or grill your salmon
catch on a common deck next to the whirlpool...
Paddle among the lily pads on the pond or hike to the glacier where ice caves lure the
foolish and the daring. Kayakers and anglers head for the Mendenhall River, while mountain
bikes beckon off-road explorations on trails lacing the forest.
Diane, who knows everybody and operates a travel consultancy from her home, can arrange
an glacier flightseeing tour aboard fixed -wind float planes or helicopter. Although
helicopters are more expensive than floatplane trips, they often land on a glacier so
passengers can walk around, look deep into blue crevasses, and have a sip of 1,000 year
old glacier water."
"A luxury suite with a stocked kitchenette ...This is the place where you can
watch the glacier as you sit in the hot tub."
The News Herald (Travel) 6/16/95
"By seven oclock I was happily soaking my feet in a hot tub at
Pearsons Pond Luxury Inn, a snug bed-and-breakfast about a mile from the Mount
McGinnis trail head and not much farther from Thunder Mountain."
Atlantic Monthly (Scaling Alaskas Heights) 2/97
"In the valley, near the glacier, Pearsons Pond Luxury Inn is a romantic
retreat with spa and fireplace."
Porthole (Destination) May/June 1996
"Im partial to such B&Bs as ...Pearsons Pond which is
...romantic and remote and has partial views of the Mendenhall Glacier."
Cross Country Skier, (Juneau) Spring 1995
"In Juneau, Diane Pearson runs Pearsons Pond Luxury Inn as a refuge for
business travelers, honeymooners, and relocating employees. "I started as a bed and
breakfast five years ago, and now its more like an inn. Its more private than
a bed and breakfast. All the rooms have private phone lines and modems.
The inn is located 12 miles from downtown Juneau and five minutes from the airport. The
rooms also have CD players and answering machines...Each room at Pearsons Pond has a
deck leading to the hot tub, which offers views of the Mendenhall Glacier, the inns
pond and four garden fountains. The owners have completed a dock this summer on the pond
and the city of Juneau has finished work on an equestrian and ski trails, which run near
the property.
Although the inn is open in winter, customer service manager Pearson also operates a
relocation service for the Juneau area. "Its one of our business avenues in the
winter."
The Alaska Journal of Commerce (Business Travel) 7/31/95
